Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran to introduce electronic permits for international road transport
Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran have agreed to implement the e-Permit system, which will replace paper permits for international road freight transport.
At present, carriers still need to obtain paper forms from authorized bodies, present them at border crossings, and keep them throughout the trip. Once e-Permit is launched, the entire permit exchange process will move to a digital format.
The new system is expected to:
- speed up transport formalities,
- reduce paperwork,
- simplify operations for carriers on international routes.
The launch timeline, technical integration details, and the list of transport operations covered by the new mechanism have not yet been disclosed.
If implemented effectively, the system could become an important step toward the digitalization of international road freight transport in the region.
