The first terminal in Russia for empty containers with its own inspection complex has opened in the Moscow Region

A new site operated by United Operator has started operations in Chekhov. It covers 30 hectares, has a capacity of more than 60,000 TEU, and can handle up to 1,000 containers per day.

The terminal was launched in response to tighter security requirements introduced after the June 2025 terrorist operation “Web” carried out by the Ukrainian armed forces. The Moscow Region is Russia’s largest logistics hub, accounting for 80% of all cargo traffic in the Central Federal District. After the incident, authorities mandated the inspection of every container, and now dedicated infrastructure with permanent control has been created for that purpose.

The scale of the plans is significant: by the end of 2027, two more similar terminals are expected to open near the Bely Rast and Elektrougli stations. This means the Moscow Region is turning into a kind of “rail belt” for cargo control.

For the logistics sector, this should mean faster empty-container turnaround, more predictable transit times, and lower risks, since inspection and storage are now combined in one location instead of being carried out through scattered checks across the region.
